In the end, it was a bit of a surprise that WhatsApp did not make the cut, as a company with its core competencies in video messaging, messaging apps, and voice-over-IP.
This was especially disappointing for WhatsApp users, as they have been hoping for the messaging app for quite some time now.
However, it is certainly possible that other companies could be interested in building WhatsApp.
As for what is on the table for the company, it appears that Google is not a long-term focus.
At least, there is no word yet on the direction of WhatsApp’s mobile division.
As far as its messaging app is concerned, the company is still focused on the messaging business, but it is expected to start working on new messaging apps at some point in the near future.
As long as there is not too much friction between messaging apps and Google, it seems that the company will remain a part of the messaging ecosystem for the foreseeable future.
