Microsoft is “whatsAPiSing” its way to a new day in the law enforcement world.
Police in Texas say they’re investigating a hack of a popular social networking app that targeted its users by sending them messages that were sent to a fake number.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says it received a tip from the FBI about the hack on Friday.
The department said the information was provided by a Texas police department that is not part of the investigation.
A man named Eric D. is accused of hacking into the number of the phone number.
The Houston Chronicle reported Friday that D. was arrested Friday night in Houston on charges of conspiracy to commit computer fraud, identity theft and wire fraud.
Authorities said D. used the number from a phone number he had purchased online and also made purchases from the same number, making more than $10,000 in fraudulent purchases.
The Houston Chronicle said the charges are similar to the federal charges.
