Google is adding emoji to its search and messaging app, and WhatsApp is going to use them.
The move will come with an emoji-heavy announcement on Monday, but the news is being kept quiet in advance.
Google is calling this emoji-focused update “a significant milestone in making our search and chat experience better.”
The announcement will go out on Monday.
Whatsapp’s new emoji features include the word “emoji” (shown below), a new emoji, and “Emoji” emoji, which are emoji that look like a human face, according to the company.
The update is a big step for the messaging app.
The company has already added emoji support for the word emoji in the Google Maps app.
Google’s emoji team is looking to add more emoji support to Google Talk, Hangouts, and YouTube in the future.
WhatsApp’s emoji are the result of an ambitious team effort from several people, including an emoji creator and an emoji expert.
Google says it has added over 1.5 million emoji since its first app update in March 2017, and has nearly 9 million emoji in use today.
